Dear ASCE members,

First, congratulations to Macee Roemer, who was just elected to be the new secretary of ASCE Wichita. We had 48 people vote in our election, which is pretty good turnout! Thanks for participating in the process.

Macee Roemer elected to the Wichita Branch board.

Construction season is in full swing, which means our annual steak fry at Botanica is just around the corner on Tuesday, June 21. This long-s

tanding tradition raises money for our college scholarship and a STEM grant for local teachers. And, it’s always a good time with drinks and food and all the local people in the industry. Later in the summer on July 28 is the sequel to last year’s fantastic Kansas Civil Engineering

Conference. It will be a day full of speakers and CEUs, with social mixers and a baseball ga

me in the evening. And then it will be fall again, and we’ll be back to monthly ASCE meetings, learning from each other and enjoying lunch breaks.

Thanks for trusting me to be your president. I’ve enjoyed getting to know several of you much better these past few years. And I look forward to learning more with ASCE in the years to come.

Daniel Mealiff, P.E.

ASCE – Wichita Branch Past-President

How do I become involved?

Opportunities for involvement in ASCE are welcome whether you are a past president or new resident to our great state.  We would be happy to have your help in making our society better.

Become an officer: Every spring we begin our search for new officers.  Make it easy on us and reach out to us if you would like to run for office.  There are openings every year on the Branch and Section boards.

Attend our events.  Attend our flagship event KansasCEcon that occurs towards the end of summer.  During the school year, attend lunch meetings in Wichita, volunteer for STEM outreach, participate in a highway cleanup (with provided dinner following), or get involved in advocacy from your computer or in person via the ASCE legislative Fly In.

Volunteer.  Service is not just for officers.  If you have a particular talent, let us know.  We'll make a spot for you if needed.  Would you like to be social chair, communications chair, write newsletters or work with kids?  Do you want to simply volunteer or lead an event?  Opportunities for involvement go beyond Kansas with ASCE by getting involved in Advocacy.  Share your passion  through ASCE; we want to find a way to get you involved.
