Dear ASCE Members:
Summer has arrived. We hope you and your family are enjoying the warm weather.
I would like to report to you regarding the status of the Section for the last six months. The first exciting effort we have made is our support of Route 66 in Kansas as a national historic civil engineering landmark. Route 66 was the first all-weather highway in the United States connecting the Midwest to California.
Secondly, Dr. Jian Li, Professor of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU), was awarded the ASCE 2025 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize for his exceptional contributions in advancing the field of structural health monitoring. Also, the KU student chapter has been selected to receive a Letter of Honorable Mention for its outstanding activities for 2024. This well-deserved honor was given based on the 2024 Annual Report and only received by the top third of all student organizations.
ASCE Kansas Section endeavors to connect students, industry practitioners, and faculty members. This year, the ASCE joint dinner was held at Kansas State University (K-State), a successful event organized by the K-State student chapter. The upcoming events include the 2025 ASCE Region 7 Assembly, co-organized by the Section in Kansas City. Not to mention, the annual Civil Engineering Conference will be organized in Wichita on August 7, 2025. Please do not miss out on these opportunities to build up your contacts and gain new knowledge in civil engineering.
